Georgia Post-Game Quotes Georgia vs. Buffalo

Georgia Head Coach Mark Richt

On the victory...

"There's no such thing as a bad victory. We are thankful for the win. I want to congratulate Buffalo for the effort. They played extremely well. 1-0 is a great thing. ... We've got some things to clean up, there's no doubt about that. We had a play with 10 men on the field and a play with 12 men on the field. We had some issues that should not happen. But they did, so we've got to correct them and square them away for next week."

On next week's game...

"Missouri has a really fine team. They will create some major issues for us. They will spread us out and we'll have to play in space a lot, plus they have a quarterback who can run."

On Gurley's kickoff return for a touchdown...

"That electrified the fans and it electrified me, too. That was fun to watch. I was proud of him and Coach (Tony) Ball and the entire kickoff return team. You need a guy with bravery to hit it up in there full speed, the ability to break some arm tackles and the speed to take it to the house. He looks like he will be a pretty good return man."

On the running backs...

"We'll have to watch the film to see exactly what they hit and didn't hit in the blocking schemes. I was pleased with the way the backs ran with the ball and they secured it well."

On the weather...

"We faced a little more adversity than anybody expected. It started with the humidity. We haven't practiced in it, and it got to us a little bit and to them a little bit. But we fought through that."

Georgia Player Quotes

Senior Receiver Tavarres King

On the offense...

"Todd [Gurley] did a good job of running the ball. The pressure really didn't get to him. It was like he was just running the ball in practice.

"Aaron and I stayed together in May and worked on timing and stuff. Any miscues that we had we got figured out then.

"The entire offense did a great job and when everybody does their job it just makes it easier for me to do mine."

Junior Quarterback Aaron Murray

On the game...

"You definitely want to go back and watch the film and make the corrections that you need to make to get better. We were far from perfect so I'm looking forward to learning something from this and being a better team next week.

"The wide receivers looked good and the protection was great all day. Overall, it was a pretty good day defensively...we just need to get better every week."

Sophomore Cornerback Damian Swann

On the game...

"We won but we can't play like that next week in that hostile environment. I think that we'll use this week to get better for Missouri.

"I thought that I played pretty well. I made a few tackles and just felt like I was flying around a lot. There's still room to get better and I think I will get better every week." Senior Defensive End Cornelius Washington

On the win...

"It's the first game so it's not going to be perfect, and there's a lot we need to do to get better, but I'm happy with the way I played, and I think the defense did a pretty good job too.

"I think one thing that we can improve on is the start. We didn't start, but when we came in at the half we made some adjustments and played a lot better in the [second half]. We need to start like that."

Buffalo Head Coach Jeff Quinn

Opening Statement...

"Give a lot of credit to Georgia. That was a good football team out there today. Conditions were tough and they were able to make some plays, especially on special teams and that's disappointing from my perspective because we have spent a great deal of time working on special teams. They played fast, smart and physical, but I felt that we went out and competed for four quarters."

On the game plan...

"Defensively, we gave up a couple of big plays. Aaron Murray is a great quarterback and Georgia has a bunch of big targets that they can throw the ball too. We didn't get to put it in the air as much as we wanted, but there were moments when we did."

On the confidence the game gave the team...

"To be able to come up with a 94-yard drive against one of the best defenses Georgia has had in awhile give us some great confidence that we can move the ball when we put our minds, heart and soul into it. I was also proud that we were able to score late in the game when we let things get away from us. We are a good football team and at times we saw that today. Losing is unacceptable, but we showed that we can fight hard and make some plays against a really great football team."

On a moral victory...

"There are no moral victories. We line up, we play and we want to win. That being said, there are things that we can take away from this game. We saw some tremendous play at big times. We play these games for national exposure, to be able to play against a great team. I'm proud that these players fought hard and make some plays. We did a lot of good things. Our tight ends made some big catches and we put the most points we ever have against an SEC team. It's a good sign that we were able to capitalize on a couple of key plays."

Buffalo Player Quotes

Junior Quarterback Alex Zordich

On the game...

"It was good to get the season started today. I feel good about how the offense played. We had some good stuff going, but we just need to be a better second half team. We lost today, and it's as simple as that. There are things that we're going to take away from this game, though, and just move forward."

Junior Running Back Brandon Oliver

On the game...

"Their defense was really hyped up, but we had a lot of confidence coming into this game. We came to play. We thought we had a chance to win, and for a while we did. I'm not going to get frustrated, but I'm just going to keep running hard and we'll see what happens."
