ATHENS, Ga.-- The Georgia Bulldogs notched their third consecutive win on Wednesday, December 2nd,, defeating the St. Louis Billikens, coached by reputed coach and former ESPN analyst Rick Majerus, by a score of 64-56. The loss takes Georgia’s season record to 4-2, while dropping St. Louis to 4-3.  4,650 Stegeman Coliseum patrons witnessed the victory, made even more exciting by a late St. Louis run.

“We beat a very sound basketball team tonight,” said Georgia head coach Mark Fox. “I really have to credit our defense because they did a great job, and I really have a lot of respect for Coach Majerus and for his team.”

Leading the Bulldogs in scoring, for the second time this season, was sophomore point guard Dustin Ware, who scored 17 points, while grabbing four rebounds and doling out two assists. Four other Bulldogs finished in double figures offensively, notably junior forward Jeremy Price, who scored 14. Sophomore forward Trey Thompkins registered 12 points, sophomore guard Travis Leslie scored 11 and grabbed nine rebounds to lead all players, and senior guard Ricky McPhee added ten points.

“They played well and made some adjustments at the half”, said Fox. “We knew they would come back and what pleased me is that when they came back, we answered the bell.”

Georgia led the entire first half and went into the break with a 13 point lead, stretching it to 20 with 17:01 remaining in the second period. The lead dwindled to five points with 3:12 remaining in the game after a made Kwamain Mitchell jumper for St. Louis, but Georgia was able to hang on and ensure victory.  Contributing to the 20-point Georgia lead was staunch defense by the Bulldogs, who were on the receiving end of 15 turnovers.  Next up for the Bulldogs are the Virginia Tech Hokies, in Blacksburg Va., on Sunday, December 6th, at 3:30 pm. The game can be heard on the Georgia Bulldogs Radio Network and live stats can be found on www.georgiadogs.com.
