ATHENS ---- The Georgia Basketball Hoop Girls will host the eighth annual "Do It For Broph" 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, October 19, in memory of former UGA basketball player Kevin Brophy. All proceeds will benefit the Kevin Brophy Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund.

The race will start at 9:00 a.m. in front of Stegeman Coliseum, at the intersection of Smith and Rutherford Streets. Check-in will begin at 8:00 a.m. on the Smith Street side of the Coliseum.

The Hoop Girls wish to invite all comers to participate in the race. Anyone wanting to enter may download and complete the entry form and bring it to the race on Saturday.  Entry fee is $10 and all participants will receive a T-shirt.

Brophy, a native of Australia, played for the Bulldogs in the 2005-06 seasons, coming to Athens first as a walk-on but later earning a full athletic scholarship for 2006. He died July 20, 2006 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

The Kevin Brophy Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund has been established to honor the person and player that Brophy was and the mark he left on the Georgia Basketball Program.  This year's recipient of the scholarship is sophomore center John Cannon of Burnsville, N.C.
