ATHENS ---- Georgia will play defending Southern Conference champion Davidson on Thursday, Nov. 21 in the first round of the 2013 Charleston Classic, the bracket for which was announced Wednesday by tournament owner/operator ESPN Regional Television.
The Bulldogs and Wildcats will square off at 5:00 p.m. (EST) in a game that will be televised live on ESPNU. The two teams are bracketed in the 8-team field with Temple and Clemson, who play the same night at 7:30 in the TD Arena on the College of Charleston campus. Winners will face each other, as will the two losers, the following night.
In the other two first-round match ups, Nebraska will play UMass at 12:30 p.m., and UAB is slated to play New Mexico at 3:00.
Davidson comes off a season in which it went 26-8, won both the SoCon regular-season and tournament titles, and played in the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats finished the season with an RPI rating of 61.
The Bulldogs return two starters from the 2013 team that went 15-17, 9-9 in SEC play. Georgia's primary task this season will be to replace the contributions of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, the SEC Player of the Year, who departed after two seasons for the NBA. He was selected eighth in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons.
Colorado won the 2012 Charleston Classic tournament title. Previous winners include Clemson (2008), Miami (2009) and Georgetown (2010) and Northwestern (2011).
