ATHENS ---- Georgia head basketball coach Mark Fox on Thursday announced the signing of Kenny Paul Geno, a 6-6 forward from Booneville, Miss., to a national letter-of-intent to attend UGA and play next season for the Bulldogs.
Geno is currently a senior at Booneville High School, which compiled an 85-16 record in his three years that included three consecutive berths in the Mississippi Class 3A state championship game. The Blue Devils won the state tile in Geno's sophomore season of 2011.
This past season, Geno averaged 23.1 points and 12.5 rebounds in leading Booneville to a 26-5 mark. He was named by the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal as its 2013 Player of the Year. He was also named to the All-State First Team by the Jackson Clarion-Ledger newspaper. Geno averaged 13.5 points and 9.7 rebounds as a junior in 2012, when Booneville won 31 of 35 games.
"We're very excited to add Kenny to our team," Fox said. "He's a great kid, a great student with high character, and I really like what he brings to the court. He can shoot it with long range. He can also play above the rim. We're looking forward to having him on campus and being part of our team."
Geno is the third UGA signee of the Class of 2013 and the first to sign in the spring signing period, which began Wednesday and will continue until May 15. He joins early signees J.J. Frazier, a 5-10 guard from Glennville, Ga., and Juwan Parker, a 6-5 guard from Tulsa, Okla.
