June 7, 2017

ATHENS-----Collegiate Baseball named University of Georgia shortstop Cam Shepherd a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American, the publication announced Wednesday.

A 6-1, 196-pound native of Duluth, Ga., Shepherd started all 57 games and led the Bulldogs with 74 hits including 16 doubles while batting .307 with five home runs and 28 RBI. He posted a .953 fielding percentage in 277 total chances and played error-free over the final 21 games of the season. In SEC action, Shepherd hit .310-2-11.

Shepherd is the 26th Bulldog in school history to earn Freshman All-America honors and the first since catcher Michael Curry last season. Last month, Shepherd was named to the Freshmen All-SEC team as voted on by the league coaches. During the season, he earned Freshman of the Week honors as voted on by the league office.

Currently, Shepherd is set to play in the Cape Cod Summer Baseball League as the season opens on June 14.
