McGovern Named to SEC Community Service Team

ATHENS-----Georgia junior outfielder Keegan McGovern has been named to the 2017 SEC Community Service Team, the league office announced recently.  

McGovern’s efforts including serving as a volunteer for “Home Runs For Hometown Rivals,” a fundraiser to benefit Athens-Clarke County Special Olympics that features a game at Foley Field between Special Olympic players. He took part in Operation Christmas Child where the baseball team organized shoeboxes of supplies for children overseas. Also, he has been a volunteer for Salvation Army activities and made elementary school visits including on Reading Days.

During his career at UGA, the Willacoochee, Ga., native has been named to the Student-Athlete Leadership Academy for his academic and athletic success, leadership, campus and community service involvement. McGovern is a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and co-captain of the 2017 squad. He has played in 53 games this season including 51 starts. McGovern is batting .298-2-17 in helping the Bulldogs qualify for the SEC Tournament.  

The SEC Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community in superior service efforts. The conference names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports.
