ATHENS----Georgia takes aim for a spot in the 12-team SEC tournament as the regular season concludes this weekend. The Bulldogs play host to Kentucky (30-21, 12-15 SEC) starting Thursday at 7 p.m. 

The Bulldogs have a half-game lead over Auburn for the final spot in the field and are a half-game behind Tennessee for 11th. UK is in 10th place. The Tigers play host to #15 LSU in their final series while UT plays host to #8 UF. Georgia last made the SEC Tournament in 2012. Georgia leads the all-time series with UK 117-84-1. UK won the series last year in Lexington 2-1.

Georgia (25-26-1 overall, 10-16-1 SEC) just finished a 19-game stretch where it played 17 games against ranked opponents. They have played a league-high 29 games against ranked teams. The Bulldogs went 3-3 the last two SEC weekends against #7 South Carolina and SEC Western Division leader #11 Ole Miss. 

On Tuesday in Atlanta at Turner Field in the 12th annual Spring Baseball Classic For Kids, the Bulldogs fell 2-0 to Ga. Tech. The game benefits Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. It drew a crowd of 21,310. Senior RHP Dylan Cole (1-0, 3.08) pitched a career-high four scoreless innings in only his second career start. Meanwhile, UK dropped a 12-inning road contest to Murray State 4-3. Georgia will honor its two seniors who also have graduated, Cole and LHP Patrick Boling (3-4, 4.76), on Saturday.

Georgia's probable rotation will be sophomore Ryan Lawlor (4-5, 3.98), sophomore David Sosebee (1-3, 2.85) and freshman Robert Tyler (5-4, 2.57).

Georgia junior SS Nelson Ward (.306-2-31) ranks fourth in the SEC in walks with 33. He leads the team with 31 RBI. He is one of two Bulldogs along with Conor Welton (OF) to have started all 52 games this season. In the road series against #11 Ole Miss, Ward hit .500 (6-for-12). Overall, Welton is batting .289-1-16 and has a six-game hitting streak including a pair of hits against Tech at Turner Field Tuesday. Ward and Welton have had a team-best 16 multi-hit games. The Wildcats feature probable National Player of the Year in junior LHP/1B A.J. Reed. He is 9-2 with a 2.30 ERA on the mound and leads the nation with 21 home runs while batting .342 with 63 RBI. Reed will start Thursday while UK has not announced starters for Friday and Saturday.
