ATHENS-----Georgia plays host to Savannah State Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Foley Field. Both teams have designated it a staff night on the mound. 

Georgia senior RHP Dylan Cole (0-0, 3.60 ERA) will makes his first career start. He has made 68 relief appearances in his career that began at Furman for two years before transferring to Georgia. Cole will graduate with a degree in marketing later this week. Savannah State will start junior RHP Austin Denney (5-3, 3.97 ERA). The Bulldogs head back out on the road for an SEC series against Western Division leading and 11th-ranked Ole Miss (35-14, 15-9 SEC) that starts Friday. The Bulldogs, under the direction of coach Scott Stricklin, are in 6th place in the SEC Eastern Division and 12th overall. 

Georgia (23-23-1) snapped an eight-game losing streak this past Friday when sophomore Ryan Lawlor notched his third complete in his last four starts as the Bulldogs won 3-1. Lawlor was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week this past Monday by the league office. The Bulldogs claimed the series with a 5-3 victory on Sunday thanks in part to a career-high six innings from David Sosebee (1-3, 3.30 ERA) and a grand slam from sophomore first baseman Daniel Nichols (.276-2-16). 

The Bulldogs are battling for a spot in the 12-team SEC Tournament after claiming their first SEC series over a top 10 ranked team since 2011. Georgia captured two of three from No. 7 South Carolina this past weekend in Athens. It was Georgia's first series win over the Gamecocks since 2008. 

Savannah State At A Glance: The Tigers are 19-28. Carlton Hardy, who is now in his eighth season, led the Tigers to their first-ever Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship and an NCAA Regional last year in Tallahassee. They are batting .280 with a 5.56 ERA and fielding.958. Junior Tre Sikes is batting .a team-best 376-9-46.

Bulldog Hitters To Watch

Junior shortstop Nelson Ward (.299-2-31) ranks third in the SEC in walks with 31. He leads the team with 31 RBI. He is one of three Bulldogs along with junior Hunter Cole (3B) and Conor Welton (OF) to have started all 47 games this season.

Junior third baseman Hunter Cole (.328-2-25) leads the team with a .328 average and ranks among the SEC leaders with 14 doubles. In the USC series, Cole batted a team-best .545 (6-for-11). He is batting a team-leading .309 in SEC action.

Freshman centerfielder Stephen Wrenn (.264-0-19) ranks fourth in the SEC with a team-best 15 stolen bases. For the year, he is 15-for-19. His speed has been asset on defense too, registering a perfect fielding percentage in 142 total chances including five assists.
