ATHENS-------Sophomore Ryan Lawlor, who pitched a complete game three-hitter in a 3-1 win over seventh-ranked South Carolina last Friday, has been named the SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
In game one of a crucial series with the nationally ranked Gamecocks at Foley Field, Lawlor, a 6-0, 176-pound native of Savannah, Ga., tossed a gem. It was his third complete game in his last four starts. He blanked South Carolina for seven innings before allowing a leadoff home run. It would be the only Gamecock to reach second base as he faced just 29 batters (two over the minimum).
Lawlor helped Georgia snap an eight-game skid Friday, and the Bulldogs rode the momentum to their first series win over a top 10 opponent since 2011 and first over South Carolina since 2008. For the year, Lawlor is 4-4 with a 3.31 ERA in 12 starts. Earlier this year, he pitched complete games against Tennessee and at Florida.
Lawlor shared the weekly honor with junior left-hander Ross Mitchell of Mississippi State. Mitchell threw the only complete game shutout on the road in the SEC this year as MSU beat Auburn.
Georgia (23-23-1) returns to action Wednesday when it plays host to Savannah State (19-28) at 6 p.m.
