Georgia-Vanderbilt Series Begins Friday In Nashville

ATHENS-----Georgia (21-19-1 overall, 7-10-1 SEC) aims to snap a season-high five-game losing streak when it faces 25th-ranked Vanderbilt starting Friday in Nashville. The series concludes an eight-game road trip. Game one is at 7:30 p.m. ET. Saturday's contest will be at 4:05 p.m.ET (CSS-TV), and Sunday the series concludes with a game at 2 p.m. ET.

Georgia, under the direction of coach Scott Stricklin, is in 5th place in the SEC Eastern Division and 11th overall. The Bulldogs had won three straight SEC series before being swept at #9 Florida this past weekend.  On Tuesday, Georgia was edged 3-1 by Kennesaw State at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville, home of the Triple-A Gwinnett Braves. 

The Commodores are 30-12 overall, 8-10 in the SEC. This past Tuesday, they beat Memphis 2-1. Last year, the Commodores posted a 2-1 series win over the Bulldogs at Foley Field. Vanderbilt lost a series at Arkansas this past weekend. Georgia leads the all-time series with VU 97-82. The last time the Bulldogs won a series over VU came in 2008 in Nashville when it clinched an SEC title. Coach Stricklin was an assistant at Vanderbilt from 2000-01.

*Sophomore 1B Daniel Nichols (.294-1-12) leads the team in SEC action with a .333 average. He has a 6-game hitting streak.

*Freshman CF Stephen Wrenn (.269-0-18) ranks among the SEC leaders with a team-best 15 stolen bases. 

*Sophomore LHP Ryan Lawlor (3-3, 3.43 ERA) has pitched two straight complete games. He helped beat #23 Tennessee 4-1 but lost at #9 Florida 3-2. In SEC action, Lawlor is 2-2 with a 2.25 ERA. He will start Friday. On Saturday, the Bulldogs will start freshman RHP Robert Tyler (4-3, 2.45 ERA). Sunday's starter is TBA.
