ATHENS-----Georgia (18-13-1 overall, 5-6-1 SEC) claimed its second straight SEC series this past weekend, winning two games in Missouri. Up next, the Bulldogs remain on the road and face 14th-ranked Clemson (20-10) Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. (CSS-TV).

Senior LHP Patrick Boling (2-2, 3.82) will get the start while Clemson’s starter is TBA. The Tigers wrap up an ACC series with N.C. State on Monday. On March 25 this year in Athens, No. 20 Clemson posted a 16-4 win over Georgia.

Georgia returns to SEC action Thursday when it plays host to nationally-ranked Tennessee (21-9, 5-7 SEC). It will be the Bulldogs only home series in April. Thursday is the “SEC Game of the Week,” and it will begin at 7:30 p.m on ESPNU. Friday’s game starts at 7 p.m., and Saturday’s contest has been adjusted to 4 p.m. due to the Bulldogs’ Spring Football game earlier that day. The Vols registered an impressive series win over #4 Vanderbilt this past weekend in Knoxville. They have a midweek game with Tenn. Tech before coming to Foley Field.

Take A Closer Look At That ERA

After giving up 58 runs in its first six games this year, Georgia’s ERA checks in at 4.09. However, if one looks at SEC games only, Georgia’s ERA of 2.55 ranks second in the league just behind Ole Miss (2.54).

Take Your Base...Take A Seat

Georgia hitters lead the SEC with 155 walks, and they lead the league with 236 strikeouts. In SEC games, the Bulldogs have 40 walks, which ranks third, while the 114 strikeouts ranks number one.

Bulldogs To Watch

Offensively, Georgia junior OF Conor Welton leads the club with a .318 average overall and .300 average in SEC action. He batted .429 (6-for-14) against Missouri and has a 6-game hit streak. Junior Hunter Cole is next at .313-1-16 with a team-high 12 doubles. Junior SS Nelson Ward has a team-best 21 RBI and a .290 average. Freshman CF Stephen Wrenn has a team-high 10 SB and ranks second on the team in SEC games with a .283 average.

Georgia freshman RHP Robert Tyler (3-2, 1.37 ERA) continues to impress as he picked up another league win this past Saturday at Missouri, going five scoreless innings with a career-high 11 strikeouts. He has 38 strikeouts and only 10 walks in a team-high 46 innings. In SEC action, Tyler is 2-2 with a 1.69 ERA.

Now healthy, freshman INF Mike Bell has assumed the starting spot at second base. This past weekend at Missouri, he batted .250 (3-12) with his first career home run. In the Texas A&M series, he hit .374 (4-11) with a double and two RBI. Bell missed the first part of the season with injuries to his hand and hamstring. He has a 5-game hit streak.

Junior RHP Jared Cheek (5-3, 2.92 ERA) picked up his team-leading fifth win this past Saturday after going a career-high 5.1 scoreless innings with six strikeouts in a 13-inning road victory against Missouri. Cheek  has been exceptional in SEC action, posting a team-best 0.82 ERA in five relief appearances.

Sophomore LHP Ryan Lawlor (2-2, 3.95 ERA) started the Friday game at Missouri and went 7.2 innings. After allowing a run in the first, Lawlor and Cheek blanked the Tigers for the final 12 innings. In four SEC starts, Lawlor is 1-1 with a 2.33 ERA. Sophomore RHP David Sosebee (0-1, 2.70 ERA) has a 0.77 ERA in SEC action, spanning four appearances for a total of 11.2 innings.

Probable SEC Rotation

For the upcoming UT series, Georgia coach Scott Stricklin will likely go with sophomore LHP Ryan Lawlor (2-2, 3.95 ERA) on Thursday, TBA on Friday and keep freshman RHP Robert Tyler (3-2, 1.37 ERA) in his normal Saturday spot.

See You Soon

This month, Georgia has just three games at Foley Field, and it’s the UT series this week starting Thursday night (April 10-12). The Bulldogs enjoyed a stretch of 17 home games during March as they went 13-4.
