ATHENS-----Georgia heads to Kennesaw State Tuesday for a 5 p.m. contest with the Owls.

The Bulldogs (8-13) will use a staff approach on the mound starting with freshman right-hander Zac Kristofak (0-1, 6.30 ERA). The Owls (8-11) have not announced a starter. KSU was swept at home by Oklahoma this past weekend while Georgia dropped three games at sixth-ranked LSU in Baton Rouge. Back on Feb. 28 at Foley Field, the Owls hit three home runs and posted a 5-4 win over Georgia. As part of a staff day on the mound, KSU used seven pitchers while the Bulldogs employed six. In the all-time series with KSU, it’s tied at 10-all. Georgia beat KSU 4-2 last year in Kennesaw.

Here’s a few notes on the Bulldogs:

*Sophomore catcher Michael Curry ranks among the SEC leaders with 24 RBI and five home runs this year. Overall, he is batting .284 with a career-best seven-game hitting streak.

*Freshman shortstop Cam Shepherd (.310-1-10) enjoyed a successful SEC debut, batting .538 in the series. In the SEC opener, he went 4-for-5 including an RBI-double, a stolen base and three runs scored. He finished the series 7-for-13 with two doubles and two RBI. Another freshman who enjoyed a nice debut was second baseman Will Proctor as he batted .556 (5-for-9) with a home run and three RBI.

*Freshmen CF Tucker Maxwell has reached base in 16 straight games. As Georgia’s leadoff hitter, he has a team-best 15 walks and is batting .229-2-7. Nine Bulldogs including seven freshmen made their SEC debut last Friday at No. 6 LSU.

A native of Marietta, freshman Zac Kristofak has made eight relief appearances for a total of 10 innings. He will make his first career start versus KSU. His last outing came at No. 6 LSU on Friday, and he went 1.1 innings, surrendering two runs on three hits with one walk. He did not face the Owls on Feb. 28.
