Georgia Plays Host To Furman Tuesday
The top three defensive teams in the SEC are South Carolina, LSU and Georgia.

Georgia (8-12, 0-3 SEC) looks to halt a four-game slide when it begins a four-game home stand on Tuesday by playing host to Furman (14-6) at 5 p.m. The Paladins dropped a Southern Conference series to Davidson this past weekend in Greenville.

Up next in the SEC, Georgia welcomes Alabama (11-9, 2-1 SEC) starting Friday at 7 p.m. Saturday's Bulldog-Bama tilt will be televised by CSS at 4:05 p.m. The Crimson Tide scored 33 runs in claiming a home series from Tennessee in their first SEC action. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs were swept at Texas A&M, falling 4-1, 2-1 (10) and 11-4. Overall, Georgia is batting .294 with a 4.95 ERA and .979 fielding percentage.

*Senior 3B Curt Powell ranks among the SEC leaders with a .412 batting average including .364 in SEC action. Earlier this year, he had a 13-game hitting streak during a stretch when he batted .509 (29-for-57). Powell’s career best is a 14-game streak in 2012. He is fielding .915 overall and 1.000 in SEC action.

*Freshman RHP/OF Sean McLaughlin is enjoying a fine start to his career at 3-1 with a 2.00 ERA in five Friday night starts. In his SEC debut at Texas A&M, he got the loss in a 4-1 contest (7 IP, 4H, 2R, 2ER, 3BB, 3K). Also, he has appeared in 12 games including eight starts as an outfielder/designated hitter, batting .179-0-3. 
*Redshirt junior LHP Patrick Boling (1-2, 3.68 ERA) has solidified the No. 2 spot in the rotation with another fine performance this past weekend at Texas A&M. He lost a pitching duel as the Bulldogs fell 2-1 in 10 innings. Boling allowed one run on six hits in 6.2 innings with two walks and a career-high 10 strikeouts. For the year, Boling has 36 strikeouts and only eight walks in 29.1 IP. 
*Sophomore RF/Closer Jared Walsh is a regular two-way player. Walsh is 1-2 with a 1.46 ERA and 2 saves with nine games finished. He is batting .328-1-11 in 16 games including 15 starts in right field. Walsh registered three RBI in the Texas A&M series as Georgia was held to just six runs.

*Senior Kyle Farmer, who served as the starting shortstop for Team USA this past summer, is leading the squad with 20 RBI. He is fielding .978 in 92 total chances and ranks third on the team in batting at .351. Farmer has a team-high eight doubles this year and 59 for his career which ranks fourth in school history.

*Freshman RHP David Gonzalez (0-1, 9.00 ERA) is slated to start against the Paladins. Furman has not announced a starter. 

*Furman, coached by Ron Smith, is batting .301 with a 3.78 ERA and .955 fielding percentage. Junior first baseman Alex Abrams leads the team with a .355 batting average while sophomore third baseman Chris Ohmstede has a team-best four home runs. Senior centerfielder Will Muzika (.341-2-8) is 13-for-16 in stolen base attempts.
