*The Bulldogs begin their longest homestand of the year Friday, a stretch of nine games, facing UAB, Western Carolina, Liberty and Appalachian State before beginning SEC play at Texas A&M. The Bulldogs play host to the Blazers Friday at 6 p.m. Saturday's game will be at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

*Georgia (2-6) is hitting .266 with a 5.25 ERA and fielding .977. They are 1-3 at home, 1-3 on the road.

*In the last four games, senior Brett DeLoach (C/DH) is batting .500 (8-for-16) with two doubles, a home run and five RBI. Meanwhile senior Curt Powell (3B) is hitting .471 (8-for-17) in this stretch. Powell became the first Bulldog in two seasons to have a 5-hit game when he went 5-for-6 against Belmont on Sunday, Feb. 24. He had a career-high 3 RBI this past Tuesday at Ga. State.

*Sophomore CF Hunter Cole is riding a 6-game hitting streak, batting .308 (8-for-26) in this span. The longest streak this season belongs to senior SS Kyle Farmer (7 games, last 3 of 2012, 1st 4 of 2013). 

*Six of Georgia’s eight games this season have been one-run affairs. The Bulldogs are 2-4 in these contests. This past Tuesday, the Bulldog fell 10-7 to Georgia State in Atlanta. 

*In keeping with the one-run theme, all six of Georgia’ home runs this season have been solo shots.

*Georgia plans to get RHP Palmer Betts, OF DJ Smith and 1B Morgan Bunting some action in the UAB series. It will be the debut for Betts and Smith while Bunting played briefly last Sunday. 

*Georgia will employ the same rotation versus UAB that it used the first two weekend series.

G1: Freshman RHP Sean McLaughlin (1-0, 3.00 ERA)

G2: Redshirt junior LHP Patrick Boling (0-2, 10.00 ERA)

G3: Sophomore RHP Luke Crumley (0-1, 11.05 ERA)

About The Blazers

*UAB (4-4), coached by Brian Shoop, is batting .235 with a 3.68 ERA and fielding .961. Shoop is in his seventh year at UAB and 24th overall as a head coach, spending 17 years at Birmingham Southern.

*The Blazers rotation will be senior RHP Tanner Bryant (1-0, 0.93 ERA, 9.2 IP, 1R, 11K, 2BB), sophomore RHP James Naile (2-0, 1.29 ERA, 14 IP, 2R, 8K, 1BB) and TBA for Sunday. 

*Top Hitters: Sophomore OF Chase Davis (.400-0-1), senior INF John Frost (.333-0-4) and junior OF Ivan DeJesus (.310-0-6). The Blazers did not have any midweek games.

*Familiar Faces on the Coaching Staff: UAB volunteer coach Ron Polk, 69, served as the Bulldog skipper for two years (2000-01) including leading Georgia to an SEC title and the College World Series in 2001. Student assistant coach Luke Stewart,a native of Normal, Ill., began his collegiate career at Georgia, lettering in 2007 before transferring to UAB. He batted .274-2-10 as a first baseman for the Bulldogs, and his first career hit was a home run against eventual NCAA champion Oregon State.

Series History With UAB

*Georgia leads the series 1-0, winning in 2000, a 9-8 decision in 10 innings in Athens. Current Bulldog director of baseball operations Kris Edge scored the winning run on a walk-off single by Jeff Keppinger, his fourth hit of the game. Edge reached on a sacrifice bunt/E1. Keppinger is in his ninth year in the Majors and currently with the Chicago White Sox.

Note: Fans attending the Georgia-Tennessee basketball game Saturday can use that ticket for free admission to Saturday's baseball game.
