Diamond Notes

*Georgia (2-5) is hitting .264 with a 4.64 ERA and fielding .978.

*Freshman RHP David Gonzalez (0-0, 2.70 ERA) will make his second career start Tuesday.

*Six of Georgia's seven games this season have been one-run affairs. The Bulldogs are 2-4 in these contests. Last week, Georgia went 1-3 at home, all one-run games and two went to extra innings. 

*In keeping with the one-run theme, all five of Georgia' home runs this season have been solo shots.

*Four Bulldogs combined on a one-hitter in the 2-1 win in 10 innings over Belmont Saturday. The lone hit allowed was a solo home run in the fourth.

*Senior Brett DeLoach (C/DH) enjoyed the best series against Belmont, batting .636 (7-for-11) with a double, home run and three RBI. He is leading the squad with a .375 average. 

*Senior Curt Powell (3B) hit .500 (7-for-14) in the series with the Bruins including a leadoff triple in the bottom of the 10th Saturday to eventually score the winning run. Powell became the first Bulldog in two seasons to have a 5-hit game when he went 5-for-6 against Belmont on Sunday, Feb. 24. 

*Sophomore Jared Walsh (OF/LHP) made two appearances for a combined 3.2 scoreless innings, earned a win and batted .375 (3-for-8) with 3 RBI in two outfield starts in the series against Belmont. For the year, Walsh is 1-1 with a 1.50 ERA and one save in four appearances covering six innings. 

*Sophomore CF Hunter Cole is riding a 5-game hitting streak. The longest streak this season belongs to senior SS Kyle Farmer (7 games, last 3 of 2012, 1st 4 of 2013). 

*Senior SS Kyle Farmer provided a walk-off SF in the 2-1 win in 10 innings over Belmont on Feb. 23.

*On Friday, Georgia starts a three-game set with UAB. Georgia's lone meeting against the Blazers came in 2000, a 9-8 win in 10-innings in Athens. The Blazers are 4-4 this year and off until Friday. 

About The Panthers

*Georgia State (4-4), coached by Greg Frady, is batting .339 with a 7.73 ERA and fielding .936. 

*The Panthers will start junior LHP Ben Burns (1-1, 5.62 ERA). 

*The leading hitters for GSU are freshman OF Josh Merrigan (.500-0-12), sophomore 2B Caden Bailey (.429-0-3) and junior SS Chad Parain (.423-0-11). Last week, they dropped a home series to Grambling (W 8-7, L 9-4 & 17-7).

Series History With GSU

*Georgia leads the series 38-6 over Ga. State going back to the first meeting in 1971. 

*Last year, the Bulldogs posted a 4-1 win over GSU in Athens. 

*Georgia's last trip to Panthersville came in 2009, an 11-6 win.

*Bulldog pitching coach Jason Eller is a graduate of Georgia State. He was a four-year letterman for the Panther baseball team from 1992-95, served as a student assistant coach there in 1996 and an assistant in 2002. He is in his 11th season with the Bulldogs.
