The Georgia Bulldogs will face 16th-ranked Baylor starting Friday at 5 p.m. at Foley Field. Game two of the series will be Saturday at 2 p.m., and the series finale on Sunday begins at 1 p.m.
About The Bears:
Baylor comes to Athens with a 2-2 mark. The Bears dropped their 2011 opener 7-3 to Oral Roberts in Waco and then rebounded to take the series with 9-4 and 5-4 (10) victories. Then this past Tuesday in Waco, they were blanked 2-0 by fourth-ranked TCU as a pair of Horned Frogs held them to two hits. The top hitters for the Bears this season have been junior catcher/infielder Joey Hainsfurther (.385-0-2) and sophomore infielder Jake Miller (.333-0-3). The Bears were picked to finish fourth in the Big 12 preseason coaches poll behind Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M. Baylor coach Steve Smith is now in his 18th year.
About The Bulldogs:
Georgia enjoyed a successful 2011 home opener this past Wednesday with a 6-4 win over Furman for its first victory of the season. The Bulldogs (1-3) were swept by Stetson this past weekend in DeLand, Fla. Georgia is picked to finish fifth in the SEC Eastern Division, according to the league coaches. Florida, a preseason favorite to win the national title by several publications, was predicted to win the East as well as the SEC. Vanderbilt, a consensus top five preseason club, was picked second followed by defending national champion South Carolina. Kentucky was fourth and Tennessee sixth.
Juniors Chase Davidson and Jonathan Hester have hit safely in all four games this season and are leading the Bulldogs at the plate. Davidson is batting .533 (8-for-15) with three doubles and four RBI while Hester is at .438 (7-for-16) including one double and a home run. While Georgia batted just .252 in the Stetson series, Hester hit .500 (6-for-12) and Davidson batted .455 (5-for-11) in the opening weekend road series. Davidson went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI in the win over Furman. Georgia head coach David Perno is in his 10th season at the helm.
