ATHENS, Ga. - The University of Georgia Athletic Association Board of Directors approved a $12 million expenditure for renovations of Foley Field during its quarterly meeting in Athens on Thursday afternoon.
The project is set to begin at the conclusion of the 2014 season and the project is anticipated to reach completion in time for Opening Day in the spring of 2015. The goal of raising $5 million dollars from fundraising alone has nearly been accomplished, and Georgia's J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Greg McGarity projects that this fundraising total will be surpassed.
"We are so close to that $5 million mark now, and we'll get there," said McGarity. "We're so close to being there right now. Our goal is to raise more than $5 million. We'd love to pay for the whole thing. That's going to be our ongoing goal. The club seats will also lead to an annual increase in revenue from baseball, too."
Included in the renovation project at Foley Field are updates to the seating and also to the press box area. McGarity noted that the baseball lettermen have responded in exceptional fashion with their respective contributions to the renovation project.
