Madebach, a native of Augusta, Ga., and a graduate of Augusta Christian, clocked a season-best 6K time of 20:48.4 to finish 18th overall at the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind. Madebach not only registered the top time out of her Lady Bulldog teammates, but she was also the first runner from the SEC across the finish line.
Thanks in part to Madebach’s finish, the No. 29 Georgia women managed 11th place against a nationally-ranked field. Madebach was the second Lady Bulldog to cross the finish line during the first three meets of the season.
“I am extremely proud of Sarah for her accomplishments this weekend at the NCAA Pre-National meet,” said Georgia coach Dave Hartman. “She is putting herself in the position to attain All-American status come November (at the NCAA Championships).”
The 2007 track and field season was a particularly exceptional one for Madebach. In addition to breaking her own school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase (10:08.64), she also won an SEC title in the steeplechase, advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships and competed at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Indianapolis, Ind.
Madebach is the first Georgia runner to win an SEC cross country weekly award since Kristin Heffelfinger earned the honor during the 2005 season.
