Junior Brandon Lord
ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia junior Brandon Lord has been named the Southeastern Conference Co-Men’s Runner of the Week following his winning performance at the Georgia Invitational, according to a league announcement.
Lord, a 5-9 native of Chattanooga, Tenn., completed the Bulldogs’ home 8k course in 26:16.49, which is the fastest time in the SEC this year. This gave Lord his first collegiate victory and helped propel Georgia to its fourth consecutive victory at the meet with a perfect team score of 15.
This also marked the third time Lord has recorded the top finish for his team during his three-year career, including a 44th-place finish at the 2010 Greater Louisville Classic as a true freshman.
Lord was also the league’s Co-Men’s Runner of the Week following the 2011 Wisconsin Invitational. His career-best time of 24:24 made him the top SEC finisher and gave him a 37th-place finish overall out of 270 runners. Last year’s meet in Madison was considered to have had the most competitive field for a regular season event in history.
The Bulldogs return to action at the Commodore Classic in Nashville, Tenn., on Saturday, Sept. 15. UGA will be racing on the same course where the SEC Championships (Oct. 26) will be held.
