ATHENS, Ga. --- With the only home meet of the year opening the season, the Georgia cross country program released its 2014 schedule on Wednesday.
The Bulldogs will start this year's slate at their home course that loops around the UGA Equestrian Complex in Bishop, Ga., on September 6. Georgia has swept the UGA Invitational for the last five years as the program prepares to again welcome a host of collegiate and high school teams.
"We are excited for another season and eager for the competition we'll face with this schedule," said Bulldog distance coach Patrick Cunniff. "We want to race against the best, keep our program at its current high level, but it is also critical to develop our young runners. This schedule allows us to do all that."
The journey to the postseason will include regular season stops in Louisville, Ky., for the Greater Louisville Classic (October 4) and in Madison, Wis., for the Wisconsin Adidas two weeks later (Oct. 17).
This year's postseason guarantees trips to Alabama and Florida with the opportunity for UGA to advance to its fourth straight NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., on November 22.
"We'll gear up for the big invitationals at Louisville and Wisconsin but as always the focus is on being ready at SECs, NCAA Regionals and Nationals," Cunniff said.
Two weeks after the Wisconsin meet, Georgia will travel to Tuscaloosa on Halloween for the Southeastern Conference Championships. The Bulldogs captured the 2013 NCAA South Regional title the last time they competed on Alabama's home course.
UGA will then make the trip to Tallahassee for this year's NCAA South Regional on November 14. Last year, the Georgia men advanced to a school record third consecutive NCAA Championships after capturing their first regional championship since 2003. The Lady Bulldogs were sixth at the South Regional to end their season as Carly Hamilton, who is returning for the 2014 campaign, and Nicole DiMercurio earned All-Region honors.
