ATHENS, Ga. --- The University of Georgia women’s cross country team was cited as one of the country’s top academically performing teams by the annual NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR) public recognition announcement Wednesday.
The announcement recognized teams with an APR in the top ten percent within their sport nationally. The APR is a point system based on scholarship athletes’ eligibility and retention for a pre-determined time period.
The UGA women’s cross country team was also the top UGA squad academically for Fall, 2008, with a team grade point average of 3.36. The team includes such student-athletes as Jillian Skinner of Nashville, Tenn., a UGA Charter Scholar, and Natalie Picchetti of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., recently presented with the Brad Davis SEC Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship Award.
