A native of Macon, Palmer Hicks is working as a volunteer assistant for the men and women's cross country and track and field teams. Hicks is a fourth generation student at the University of Georgia and walked on the Bulldog cross country team in 2010.
Hicks began his track and field career at Winder-Barrow High School where he was an All-Region and state qualifier on the track. He also clocked an elite performance in cross country under the GHSA sanctions before graduating with honors.
After being recruited by a variety of institutions, Hicks enrolled and competed for Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C., for two seasons. He still holds times that are in the Guilford record books. Hicks was a two-time member of the student-athlete academic honor roll, served on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and was a three-time Old Dominion Conference cross country honor roll member.
Hicks later transferred to UGA and was a walk-on for the 2010 Bulldog cross country squad. Hicks, who holds a USATF Level One coaching certification and a technical certification from the U.S. Track and Field Academy, now competes on the UGA triathlon team at the SEC and USAT collegiate national level. He is scheduled to graduate with a degree in History in 2013.
Hicks' uncle, John Stuart Hunsinger was a gridiron legend at Georgia Tech. He played on the 1952 national championship team and served as an inspiration for Hicks' pursuit in athletics. Hunsinger also competed on the Georgia Tech track team. Hicks' brother, Collin Hicks, is on a Marine scholarship at The Citadel in Charleston, S.C.
