Saniel Atkinson is making it her routine to clear at least 6 feet in the high jump. |
July 3, 2012
KINGSTON, Jamaica --- Lady Bulldog junior Saniel Atkinson cleared a personal-best height of 6 feet, 2 ¼ inches to win the high jump at the Jamaican National Championships in Kingston, Jamaica, over the weekend.
This victory comes on the heals of Atkinson winning the high jump at the Bermuda Olympic Trials and the Bahamas Olympic Trials in the last several weeks. Atkinson finished her 2012 outdoor season with Georgia by tying for sixth at the NCAA Championships for her first career First Team All-America certificate.
The Upper Marlboro, Md., native entered the Jamaican meet at 5-8.75 and did not miss any bars until attempting to clear 6-3.25. She cleared five consecutive heights, including a personal-best mark of 6-2.25.
Atkinson will have one more shot at advancing to the Olympics. She is scheduled to compete at the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) Under-23 Championships in Guanajuato, Mexico, on July 6-8.
