EUGENE, Ore. --- Former Lady Bulldog Hyleas Fountain has clinched a trip back to the Olympic Games after winning the heptathlon during Trials in Eugene, Ore., on Saturday.

Fountain scored a season-high 6,419 points, which easily passed the Olympic "A" standard necessary to go to London, to finish in front of Sharon Day (6,343) and Chantae McMillan (6,188). Fountain's point total is the best for the 31-year-old since she tallied 6,619 to earn runner-up honors at the 2008 Olympics.

Her victory gives the Bulldogs three former team members from the U.S. in the Games for the first time in program history. Reese Hoffa (shot put) and Kibwe Johnson (hammer throw) also won their events at the Trials to qualify.

Representing the last competitor at the U.S. Trials who has UGA ties, former Bulldog All-American Justin Gaymon competes for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team on Sunday at 7:12 p.m. ET in the 400-meter hurdle finals.

Fountain started her second day of competition by winning the long jump. She recorded only one fair jump, a mark of 20 feet, 8 inches, and fouled on her final two attempts in rainy conditions.

The former four-time NCAA champion for the Lady Bulldogs reached 132-7 on her second effort in the javelin before passing on her final throw. Fountain finished seventh in the event for another 676 points.

In the heptathlon's final event, Fountain maintained her lead in the point's race by crossing the 800 finish line in 2:17.90. She was 16th in the event and still managed to top Day by 76 points for Fountain's fifth national championship in the event.
