ATHENS, Ga. --- Seven Georgia team members have made the trip to Des Moines, Iowa, in preparation for the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Williams starts things off in the decathlon with the gun firing for the 100 at 1:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday. He will complete five events on the first day and start the final five with the 110 hurdles at 11 a.m. on Thursday. The other six Bulldogs also begin their action on Thursday.
In the Seniors portion of the meet, senior Leslie Boozer (steeplechase), junior Megan Malasarte (800), sophomore Carly Hamilton (1500) and junior Johnathan Smith (100) will be battling the rest of the nation’s elite competition.
The top two finishers in each event from the Juniors group will be qualified to represent the U.S. at the Pan Am Junior Athletics Championships in Medellin, Columbia, on August 23-25. The top three finishers in the Senior portion of the meet are expected to be selected to Team USA for the IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia, on August 10-18.
The 2013 collegiate season ended with the Lady Bulldogs tying for 11th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. Freshman Freya Jones won the javelin title while freshmen Shaunae Miller earned runner-up honors in the 400, freshman Leontia Kallenou was fourth in the high jump and senior Lucie Ondraschkova took seventh in the heptathlon to score the Georgia women 25 points.
The Bulldogs tied for 49th with four points at the national meet. Freshman Maicel Uibo scored more than 8,000 points in the decathlon for the second time in his career to finish fifth.
