ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia junior Brandon Lord and freshman Derrick White have received Southeastern Conference weekly track and field honors following the weekend's action, according to a league announcement.
Lord was named the SEC Men's Runner of the Week following his win at the Raleigh Relays while White was named the SEC Men's Freshman of the Week after his performance at the Yellow Jacket Invitational.
This marks the second and third weekly SEC honors for Georgia this outdoor season. Sophomore long jumper Chanice Porter garnered the Women's Field Athlete of the Week award last week.
Lord, a native of Chattanooga, Tenn., ran a personal-best time of 29:10.87 to take over the national lead and grab the top collegiate finish in the men's 10,000-meter run at the Raleigh Relays.
This trims two seconds off Lord's former career-best effort and improves his No. 2 time in the school record books. It is the fastest time for the Bulldogs since Ian Burrell set the school record (28:48.78) seven years ago in 2007.
White, native of Lithia Springs, Ga., won his first collegiate race after clocking a career-best 400 time of 47.13 at the Yellow Jacket Invitational to top 15 other competitors.
White is leading the nation for freshmen, is tied for first among SEC athletes and tied for sixth nationally. He was also seventh in the 200 with a time of 21.12.
Georgia travels to Gainesville, Fla., on Thursday for the Florida Relays, which the Bulldogs will compete in on Friday and Saturday.
