Keturah Orji Named SEC Athlete Of The Week
Feb. 15, 2017

ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia junior Keturah Orji has been named the Southeastern Conference Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for the second meet in a row, according to a league announcement.

This is the eighth SEC honor of the year for the Bulldogs. Freshman Darius Carbin (high jump) and Jessica Drop (3000 meters) swept the league’s Freshman of the Week honors on January 10 and senior Tatiana Gusin (high jump) was named the USTFCCCA National Women’s Athlete of the Week and the SEC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week on that same day.

Junior Mady Fagan (high jump) was named the Women’s Field Athlete of the Week by the conference following the Aggie Invitational. The league honored Carbin, Orji and freshman Louisa Grauvogel (pentathlon) following the Razorback Invitational.

Orji, a native of Mount Olive, N.J., posted the NCAA’s leading mark with a season-best effort of 46 feet, 3 ¼ inches to win the triple jump at the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tenn., by more than two feet. The three-time NCAA champion pushed her win streak to six in the event during indoor collegiate competitions and is 18-1 overall in collegiate competitions indoors and outdoors.

Orji, whose second-best mark of 45-11.25 last weekend would have also led the nation, ranks fourth on the current World list going into the SEC Indoor Championships (February 24-25). She also stands second on the country’s 2017 performance list in the long jump after traveling 21-9 at the Razorback Invitational.

A small number of Bulldogs will get one more regular season meet in with the Tiger Tuneup in Clemson, S.C., on Friday.
