ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia freshman Tynia Gaither has received weekly Southeastern Conference honors following her performance at the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, S.C., according to a league announcement.
Gaither was named the SEC Women's Freshman of the Week after winning the 200-meter dash, running a leg on the winning 4x400 relay team and clocking a career-best time in the 60. The Lady Bulldogs have now won this award two weeks in a row and three times during the 2012 indoor season.
Gaither, a Kissimmee, Fla., native, topped 69 other competitors to win the 200 with a time of 24.38. She also registered a personal-best time of 7.56, which ties as the 10th-best time in school history, to finish fourth in the 60.
To complement her individual finishes, Gaither combined with fellow freshmen Taylor Hollingsworth and Quintunya Chapman and junior Sarah Akinosho to win the 4x400 relay after crossing the finish line in 3:54.15.
Freshman pole vaulter Morgann Leleux has been named the SEC Women's Freshman of the Week twice this season for the Lady Bulldogs.
Georgia takes the weekend off from competition as the teams continue to train for the SEC Indoor Championships in Lexington, Ky., on February 24-26.
