Five Bulldogs Help U.S. All-Stars Win Duel In The Pool

GLASGOW, Scotland --- The United States All-Stars, featuring five members of the Georgia swimming teams, won the Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool against their European counterparts on Sunday.

Team USA used a mixed medley relay to break a tie and post a 132-131 decision at Tollcross International Swimming Centre. The United States improved to 6-0 in the series.

Georgia was represented by senior Shannon Vreeland, freshman Olivia Smoliga and former Lady Bulldog Megan Romano on the women's side and by junior Nicolas Fink and sophomore Chase Kalisz for the men.

Smoliga posted a win in the 100 backstroke, touching in 57.06. She also came in third in the 100 freestyle in 52.74 and fourth in the 50 freestyle with a time to 24.41.

Vreeland placed second in the 100 freestyle in 52.73, took fourth in the 200 freestyle in 1:54.37 and came in eighth in the 400 freestyle in 4:07.36.

Kalisz took second in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:02.40. He also placed third in the 200 individual medley in 1:54.26 and seventh in the 200 breaststroke in 2:09.23.

Romano took fifth in the 50 freestyle (24.70) and seventh in the 100 freestyle (53.69).

Fink was fifth in the 100 and 200 breaststroke in 58.29 and 2:05.20, respectively.

Vreeland, Smoliga and Romano helped the 400 freestyle relay post a runner-up time of 3:28.96. Smoliga and Romano swam on the 400 medley relay that finished second in 3:51.38.
