AUSTIN, Texas --- Laura Ryan of the Georgia diving team qualified to represent the United States in the 2014 FINA World Cup during the USA Diving Winter National Championships on Sunday.
Ryan, a senior from Elk River, Minn., came in fourth on the 3-meter springboard with 879.90 points. Maren Taylor won with 923.90 points, followed by Casey Martin with 907.75 and Emma Ivory-Ganja with 882.30.
Ryan will be joined on the U.S. World Cup team by Taylor. Martin and Ivory-Ganja did not meet the degree of difficulty requirements to advance.
The FINA World Cup will take place July 15-20 in Shanghai, China.
Ryan won her preliminaries round with 311.15 points, then stood fourth after the semifinals after missing just one dive and posting 254.55 points for a total of 565.70. She added 314.20 points in the finals to come in fourth.
Ryan, who had offseason knee surgery, was the 2013 SEC champion on 3-meter.
"Laura dove really well this week," Georgia coach Dan Laak said. "Her goal coming in was to make the World Cup team, and she did a fantastic job. Not bad for a few months removed from surgery. She's getting better every day, and this bodes well for the rest of the season."
Georgia's teams will return to action Jan. 3-5 with the UGA Diving Invitational and a swimming dual meet against North Carolina State on Jan. 4.
