ATHENS, Ga. --- Laura Ryan and Melanie Margalis of the Georgia women's swimming and diving team have been chosen as Southeastern Conference Athletes of the Week, according to an announcement Tuesday by the league office.
Ryan, a junior from Elk River, Minn., earned SEC Female Diver of the Week honors after winning both springboards in Thursday's victory over Florida. Ryan posted 315.67 points on 1-meter and 353.10 points on 3-meter, each of which improved her NCAA Zone qualifying standards.
Margalis, a junior from Clearwater, Fla., was named SEC Female Swimmer of the Week for her efforts against the Lady Gators. Margalis won the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.76, the 200 breaststroke in 2:13.46 and the 200 individual medley in 1:59.74. All three times are NCAA B cuts.
Behind Ryan and Margalis, the Lady Bulldogs extended their all-sports school record to 79 straight home victories and they won for the 29th straight time in the SEC.
Georgia's teams will return to action Friday, Nov. 9, at home against Missouri.
