Margalis, Romano To Represent U.S. In World University Games

ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia swimmers Melanie Margalis and Megan Romano have been named to the United States squad that will compete in the 2013 World University Games, according to an announcement Tuesday by USA Swimming.
The swimming portion of the World University Games will take place July 10-16 in Kazan, Russia. Margalis is a junior and Romano is a senior for the Lady Bulldogs, who will open the 2012-13 season in October.
Margalis will compete in the 200 individual medley at the World University Games. She has the second-fastest time in school history in that event. Romano is slated to participate in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle and the 100 and 200 backstroke. She owns the American, U.S. Open, NCAA and Georgia records in the 200 freestyle after winning the event at the 2012 NCAA Championships. She also holds the school records in the 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.
Taking place every two years, the World University Games are an international multi-sport event organized for university athletes by the International Sports Federation (FISU). Swimmers on the 2013 World University Games Team roster were selected based upon their performance at the 2012 U.S. Open Championships.
