Romano, Margalis, MacLean Earn Medals At World University Games

KAZAN, Russia --- Megan Romano, Melanie Margalis and Brittany MacLean combined for five medals in swimming competition at the World University Games on Saturday.

Romano, who completed her eligibility in March after leading Georgia to the NCAA title, anchored the victorious United States 4x200-meter freestyle relay, which stopped the clock in 7:55.53. Margalis, a rising senior, swam on the 4x200 freestyle relay in prelims, helping the squad snare the top seed for the final. By swimming in prelims, Margalis also qualified for a gold medal.

MacLean, a rising sophomore competing for Canada, earned a bronze medal with a third-place effort on the 4x200 freestyle relay. Canada posted a time of 8:02.73.

Romano also won a silver medal with a second-place finish in the 100-meter backstroke. Her time of 59.85 was narrowly nipped by Russia's Anastasia Zueva, who had a World University Games record 59.83.

Margalis picked up a bronze medal with a third-place effort in the 200-meter individual medley. Margalis posted a time of 2:12.96.
