KAZAN, Russia --- Georgia's Laura Ryan won the bronze medal in 3-meter synchro springboard diving at the World University Games on Thursday.

Ryan, a rising senior, teamed with Texas diver Meghan Houston to record 270.00 points and come in third. The team from China was first with 314.40 points and the Australians were second with 291.60 points.

Houston and Ryan won the first medal of the Games for Team USA's divers. They were in fourth place, trailing then-third-place Russia by 3.54 points, with one dive to go. Houston and Ryan closed out their list with 57.60 points on their back 2.5 somersaults to overtake Russia and secure the bronze medal by 1.5 points.

Earlier in the Games, Ryan came in fifth in platform diving and 10th on 3-meter springboard. Thursday's competition completed Ryan's schedule in Russia.

Also on Thursday, former Lady Bulldog Megan Romano secured the second seed for Friday's finals in the 100-meter freestyle. After winning her prelims heat in 55.48, she took second in her semifinals heat (and second overall) with a time of 54.68. The finals will be held Friday at 12:11 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN3.
