INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Georgia's Jordan Mattern added her name to the United States roster for the upcoming FINA World Championships by placing fourth in the 200-meter freestyle on Wednesday at the USA Swimming Phillips 66 National Championships.
Rising senior Shannon Vreeland came in third in 1:58.13 and Mattern was fourth in 1:58.27. Vreeland and former Lady Bulldog Megan Romano qualified for the World Championships during Tuesday's 100-meter freestyle competition, and they were joined on Wednesday by Mattern, a rising junior, from the 200-meter freestyle.
The top four finishers in the 100- and 200-meter freestyle were awarded spots for the FINA World Championships, which will take place July 28-Aug. 4 in Barcelona, Spain. Vreeland will swim in the 100-meter freestyle, she and Mattern will be on the 4x200-meter freestyle relay, and Romano will be on the 4x100-meter freestyle relay.
In other finals from Wednesday, Nic Fink came in third in the men's 200-meter breaststroke in 2:10.97 and Annie Zhu placed fifth in the women's 200-meter breaststroke in 2:26.52.
The USA Swimming Phillips 66 National Championships will continue on Thursday with the 400-meter individual medley, the 100-meter butterfly, the 50-meter breaststroke, the 50-meter backstroke and the women's 4x200-meter freestyle relay.
