INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Shannon Vreeland and Megan Romano landed spots on the United States roster for the FINA World Championships to highlight the Georgia contingent's showing on Tuesday in the USA Swimming Phillips 66 National Championships.
Vreeland, a rising senior, and Romano, who completed her eligibility in March, finished second and fourth, respectively, in the 100-meter freestyle. Vreeland notched a time of 53.83 and Romano touched in 53.90, lifetime bests for each swimmer.
The FINA World Championships will take place July 28-Aug. 4 in Barcelona, Spain.
Also on Tuesday, Andrew Gemmell came in sixth in the men's 1,500-meter freestyle (15:17.65) and Chase Kalisz placed eighth in the men's 200-meter butterfly (1:58.60).
The USA Swimming Phillips 66 National Championships continues on Wednesday with the 200-meter freestyle, the 200-meter breaststroke, the 200-meter backstroke, the 50-meter butterfly and the men's 4x200-meter freestyle relay.
