June 24, 2013

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- Georgia's swimming program will be well represented at USA Swimming’s Phillips 66 National Championships, which opens on Tuesday.

National titles and United States roster spots for next month’s FINA World Championships will be on the line during the meet, which will go through Saturday at The Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI, the site of the Lady Bulldogs' national championship in March.

Those with Georgia ties scheduled to compete include current swimmers Lauren Harrington, Shannon Vreeland, Amber McDermott, Jordan Mattern, Annie Zhu, Melanie Margalis, Nic Fink, Andrew Gemmell, Chase Kalisz and Ty Stewart; former Lady Bulldogs Megan Romano and Allison Schmitt; and incoming freshmen Olivia Smoliga and Rachel Zalinskas.

More than 30 members of the 2012 United States Olympic Team, including Schmitt, Vreeland and Gemmell, will be competing at this week's meet.

Prelims will be held each day at 9 a.m., followed by finals at 6 p.m.

This meet is the sole qualifier for the U.S. team for the pool competition at the FINA World Championships, which runs July 28-Aug. 4 in Barcelona, Spain. The winner of each event will claim an automatic spot on the roster.

A live webcast of the meet can be found at usaswimming.org, plus the NBC Sports Group will have extensive coverage. For that schedule, go to http://gado.gs/1t1.
