Jan. 30, 2013

ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia swimmer Chase Kalisz has been named the Southeastern Conference Male Freshman of the Week, according to an announcement by the league office.

Kalisz was a January enrollee who has competed in three meets for the Bulldogs. He is 9-for-9 in individual races and has been chosen as the SEC Freshman of the Week after each competition.

In Georgia's meet with Tennessee in Knoxville last Saturday, Kalisz won three events with NCAA B-cut marks. He won the 200 butterfly in 1:46.89, the 200 breaststroke in 1:58.09 and the 400 individual medley in 3:49.82. All three times were collegiate personal bests.

Kalisz and the Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday in Tuscaloosa against Alabama and South Carolina in the final regular-season meet of the year. The SEC Championships will be held Feb. 19-23 at Texas A&M.
