AUSTIN, Texas --- The Georgia swimming team will send eight individuals and a relay into tonight's finals at the NCAA Championships.
During prelims on the third and final day of competition, Kelsey Gaid came in fifth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:52.75. In the 100 freestyle, the Lady Bulldogs had Morgan Scroggy (48.01) fifth, Megan Romano (48.18) eighth and Allison Schmitt (48.48) 12th. Michelle McKeehan took 10th in the 200 breaststroke in 2:10.18.
In the 1,650 freestyle's timed finals, Georgia will have two-time defending champion Wendy Trott, Chelsea Nauta and Shannon Vreeland.
Georgia came in third in the 400 freestyle relay as the team of Scroggy, Romano, Margalis and Schmitt stopped the clock in 3:12.89.
The quest for the title appears to be between three teams: California, 295 points; Georgia, 274.5 points; and Southern Cal, 253 points.
