ATHENS, Ga. --- Four members of the Georgia women's swimming team improved their provisional qualifying times in an attempt to increase their chances of making next month's NCAA Championships during the Bulldog Invitational Last Chance Meet on Sunday at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
In the 200 breaststroke, Shannon O'Malley pushed her B-cut time to 2:11.09 and Olivia Boggs moved to 2:14.96. Sommers Creed got her B-cut time in the 200 butterfly down to 2:00.48, while Anna Neumeister improved her time in the 200 backstroke to 1:58.04.
The field for the NCAAs will be set this week based on Sunday's last chance and conference meets around the country. Swimmers with provisional times are not guaranteed a spot in the championship meets.
"The kids competed really hard this weekend, and we're proud of them for that," Georgia coach Jack Bauerle said. "They gave everything they had. You can't ask for anything more. We think Shannon's time will get her in the meet, so that's exciting. We'll hang tight for a couple of days and see how it all shakes out."
The NCAAs for the women will take place March 15-17 in Auburn, Ala., while the NCAAs for the men will be March 22-24 in Federal Way, Wash.
ESPNU will televise highlights from the SECs on Monday at 5 p.m. for the men and at 5 p.m. Tuesday for the women. The Lady Bulldogs won their third straight league title in Knoxville, while the Bulldogs came in third.
