07/06/2012 Williams Named Assistant Coach For Georgia SwimmingWilliams Named Assistant Coach For Georgia Swimming Assistant Coach - 12th Year Now in her 12th season with Georgia's swimming staff, Carol Capitani has continued to help keep Georgia one of the premier swimming and diving programs in the country.
In the summer of 2007, Capitani served as an assistant coach for the United States at the Japan International Grand Prix. She also served as an assistant coach for the women's U.S. National Team competing at the 2005 World University Games in Turkey. Capitani came to Athens after a three-year stint as Associate Coach for the men's and women's program at Villanova University in Pennsylvania. While at Villanova, she helped lead the Lady Wildcats to three consecutive Big East Championship titles, and several men and women at Villanova scored at the NCAA Championship each of those years. Capitani spent her collegiate swimming career at the University of California Berkeley, where she accumulated eight All-America honors in the individual medley and breaststroke events. Capitani graduated from California-Berkeley in 1991 with a B.A. in English and completed her Master's degree in English at Villanova University. Her interests include: running (finishing in the top 50 percent in the Boston Marathon), tennis, Pilates and reading great short stories. She and her husband, Kevin, live in Athens and have two daughters, Carmen (5) and Tatum (3). |
