Kate Burkholder joined the University of Georgia Athletic Association in August 2009 as a graduate assistant in sports communications and was promoted to Assistant Sports Communications Director in June 2011. She is the primary media relations contact for the women's soccer and men's tennis teams while serving as the department's coordinator of social media strategy. In addition to operating the official UGAAA Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine, and Google+ accounts, Burkholder introduced in-game live chat coverage for several Bulldog sports teams and is the author of "Between the Hedges"- Georgia's official all-sports blog. She also aids in educating staff, coaches, and student-athletes on social media planning and best practices. Prior to arriving in Athens, Burkholder served as a sports information intern at Duke University for the 2008-09 academic year, where she was the media relations contact for field hockey, women's lacrosse, swimming and diving, track and field, and cross country. A native of Marlton, N.J., Burkholder is a 2008 graduate of Rutgers University with a double major in Journalism & Media Studies and American Studies. She earned her master's degree in sport management from UGA in 2010 and has pursued additional coursework within UGA's Institute of Higher Education. She is engaged to Kevin Copp, a video production assistant and broadcaster for Georgia IMG Sports Marketing. |
