Kate Copp joined the UGA Athletic Association in August 2009 as a graduate assistant in sports communications, and was promoted to Assistant Sports Communications Director in June 2011. She serves as the media relations contact for the Georgia women's soccer and men's tennis teams and coordinates the department's social media strategy. Copp also spent two seasons working with the nationally-ranked gymnastics team and has traveled with women's basketball in the postseason. She serves on the department's New Employee Orientation and Student-Athlete Honors Banquet committees.
In addition to operating the official UGAAA Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Vine accounts, the former Kate Burkholder introduced in-game live chats for several Bulldog sports teams and is the author of Between the Hedges - Georgia's all-sports blog. She also aids in educating staff, coaches, and student-athletes on social media planning and best practices.
Prior to arriving in Athens, Copp served as a sports information intern at Duke University for the 2008-09 academic year, where she was the media relations contact for field hockey, women's lacrosse, swimming and diving, track and field, and cross country. She was the media coordinator for the 2008 ACC Field Hockey Championships and the 2009 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Durham Regional. At UGA, Copp has served as the media coordinator for the 2010, 2012, and 2014 NCAA Men's & Women's Tennis Championships.
A native of Marlton, N.J., she is a 2008 graduate of Rutgers University with a double major in Journalism & Media Studies and American Studies. She earned her master's degree in sport management from UGA in 2010 and has pursued additional coursework within UGA's Institute of Higher Education. She married UGA broadcaster and video producer Kevin Copp in June 2014, and they currently reside in Athens.
