$92,989,251 Budget, Facility Projects Approved by UGA Athletic Board

St. Simons Island, GA ------- A fiscal year 2014 budget of $92,989,251 and several facility-related projects were approved Thursday highlighting the quarterly meeting of the University of Georgia Athletic Association Board of Directors.

A total of $1.25 million relates to Sanford Stadium projects which include closed captioning boards on the inside north and south sides of the stadium, ticket scanning equipment, and an upgrade to the Champions Club.

Ticket scanning will be implemented this fall for all ticket holders entering the stadium.

Other facility projects included in the new budget are improvements to the equestrian facility, design funds for resurfacing the Woodruff Practice Fields, additional practice field lights, upgrades to the Stegeman Coliseum athletic training room, and resurfacing tennis courts at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in preparation for the 2014 NCAA Tennis Championships.

Also included in the budget, as in 2013, is $4 million which will be returned to the University. Since 2007, over $15 million has been returned to the University from the Athletic Association.

Faculty Athletics Representative David Shipley delivered an academic report which included student-athlete awards and an overall review of the 2012-13 academic year. In other business, two new student athlete representatives to the Board were approved: Kate Fuller, women's tennis, and Andew Gemmell, men's swimming and diving.
