Bulldogs Wind Up Ninth In U.S. Collegiate

ALPHARETTA, Ga. --- The No. 2-ranked Georgia men's golf team fired its best round of the tournament on Wednesday to close the United States Collegiate Championship at the Golf Club of Georgia.

On the Lakeside Course's par-72, 7,017-yard layout, the Bulldogs carded a 2-under-par 286 to finish at 22-over 886. Georgia finished in ninth place, 22 shots behind Southern Cal.

Hudson Swafford finished in 28th place individually at 6-over 222, signing for his third consecutive 2-over 74. Medalist honors went to Oklahoma State's Trent Leon, the brother of former Lady Bulldog Taylor Leon, at 8-under 208.

Brian Harman and Adam Mitchell finished tied for 38th at 7-over 223 as Harman closed with a 2-under 70 and Mitchell had a 1-under 71. Russell Henley (even-par 72) took 38th at 9-over 225, while Harris English (1-over 73) placed 48th at 12-over 228.

"We played much better today," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "And that's something we can build on. We're not happy with the way we finished in the field, but we will keep working and keep moving forward."

The Bulldogs will return to action April 4-6 at the Administaff ASU Invitational at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Augusta.
