ATHENS, Ga. --- Colby May went 2-for-3 with a home run and scored five runs to help lead Georgia to a 13-6 win over Wofford Wednesday at Foley Field.

With the win the Bulldogs improved to 9-0, tying the 1911 team for the best start in school history.

“I just wanted to get through this game and get to 9-0,” said head coach David Perno. “We’re really off to a good start. We know things aren’t going to stay easy for us, but we just have to keep doing the things that we’re doing well.”

The Bulldogs, ranked No. 2 by Collegiate Baseball, scored in six out of eight innings and have now scored in 48 of 75 innings this season.

Joey Lewis went 2-for-5 with three RBI, Chase Davison went 2-for-3 with a run scored and Adam Fuller came off the bench to add a pair of hits. Rich Poythress went 1-for-2 with two walks and scored two runs.

“Offensively you just can’t say enough about our guys,” Perno said. “We’re playing a lot of guys and they are all coming up big for us. The depth we have really allows us to stay fresh and sharp.”

Jason Leaver (2-0) tossed 4.0 scoreless innings and struck out six batters to earn the win, and Dean Weaver closed out the game with a scoreless ninth.

The Bulldogs scored three runs in first as Peter Verdin and Matt Cerione reached to lead off the inning, and Verdin eventually scored a wild pitch to give Georgia a 1-0 lead. Lewis’ two-run single scored Cerione and May to make it 3-0.

Georgia added two runs in the third off a two-run home run by Rich Poythress that also scored May. The Bulldogs have outscored their opponents 43-6 in the first three innings this season.

A pair of solo home runs by Zach Cone and May pushed the Bulldogs’ lead to 7-0 in the fourth, and Chase Davidson scored on another RBI single by Lewis to give Georgia an eight run lead.

The Terriers (3-4) scored three runs in the sixth, but Georgia responded with four in the bottom of the inning highlighted by an RBI single by Miles Starr. May scored on a wild pitch, the scored his fifth and final run of the game on a double by Bryce Massanari in the seventh. With the hit, Massanari extended his hitting streak to nine games.

Bobby Deluria (0-1) gave up three earned runs in 2.0 innings to take the loss for Wofford.

Georgia plays host to Quinnipiac in the final non-conference weekend series of the regular season beginning Friday.
