Freshman Colby May went 3-for-4 with a walk to lead the Bulldogs (29-7) while Levi Hyams, Bryce Massanari and Johnathan Taylor added two hits each including home runs by Hyams and Massanari. Joey Lewis and Michael Demperio also homered.
Jason Haniger went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBI for Georgia Tech (22-9-1).
“We pushed them as much as we could push them,” Georgia coach David Perno said. “You can’t get down on a good team like that. There is no margin for error. It was disappointing but our kids are accountable and they know that we just have to play better.”
Haniger’s two-run blast in the first inning gave Georgia Tech a 2-0 lead, and Jeff Rowland tripled down the right field line in the second inning to drive in two more runs and make it 4-0. Rowland later scored on a sacrifice fly and the Yellow Jackets led 5-0 after an inning and a half.
In the bottom of the second, Zach Cone drew a leadoff walk followed by a two-run home run by Demperio to cut the lead to three, but a three-run blast by Georgia Tech’s Cole Leonida in the third extended the lead to 8-2. The Jackets added a run in the top of the sixth.
Lewis belted his 12th home run of the season in the sixth, and Georgia added a pair of runs in the seventh. Hyams led off with his fourth home run, and Massanari singled in a run with the bases loaded and no outs. Tech got out of the jam with a popup and two strikeouts.
The Yellow Jackets’ Matt Skole hit a two-run blast in the ninth, and Massanari connected on his 11th home run in the bottom of the inning for the final margin.
Jed Bradley (2-2) tossed six innings and allowed five runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts to earn the win. Chase Hawkins (3-2) allowed five runs on six hits in two innings to take the loss for the Bulldogs.
Georgia dropped to 24-1 when scoring at least six runs.
Georgia plays host to Arkansas in a three-game series beginning Friday at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs have a half-game lead over the Razorbacks in the overall SEC standings.
