ATHENS --- A total of 10 student-athletes now have signed National Letters-Of-Intent to attend the University of Georgia, Bulldog head coach David Perno announced Thursday.

The class, which will join the program next fall, features five Georgia natives, two from Florida and one each from Arizona, Alabama and Kentucky. Perno said he is pleased with how this year’s group came together.

“We’re thrilled about our latest talented additions to the Georgia program, and it’s a credit to our recruiting coordinator Jason Eller and the rest of the staff,” said Perno. “It’s a well-balanced class, and along with identifying our needs, we have a few that we feel will make an immediate impact like Ryan Acosta, Jace Brown, Isaiah Froneberger , Will Harvil, Ben Revere and Kevin Rhoderick. It’s a great mix of in-state and out-of-state talent.”

Here is a brief review of some of the latest additions:

Ryan Acosta: He batted .430 with a team-leading six home runs, 23 RBI and 20 stolen bases plus had three saves as a junior All-State selection for Clearwater Central Catholic. As a sophomore at Berkeley Preparatory School in Tampa, he batted .400 with five home runs, 33 RBI, 10 stolen bases and two saves.

Jace Brown: He batted .415 with one home run and 25 RBI for the District 12 runner-up Cardinal Mooney Cougars in 2006. He earned third team Class 3A All-State honors. He has attended Perfect Game showcases and is the son of Kim Edmondson-Brown and former Georgia Bulldog Major Leaguer Marty Brown.

Isaiah Froneberger: He has posted a combined 11-1 mark with a 1.89 ERA and 192 strikeouts in 92 innings the past two years for Forest Park High School. Also, he has batted .472 with six home runs, 52 RBI and 20 stolen bases in that span in helping the Panthers to back-to-back region titles and Class-AAAA state playoff appearances. He was named the Southern Crescent Pitcher of the Year and was one of 18 Georgia players to be selected as an Atlanta Braves All-Star.

Will Harvil: He posted a 6-1 mark with 60 strikeouts in 50 innings pitched for Young Harris College as a freshman last year as the team went 46-16 and won the GJCAA Conference title. A graduate of Campbell High School, he was a two-time MVP selection as a pitcher/infielder.

Ben Revere: He is a two-way standout in baseball and football for the Lexington (Ky.) Catholic Knights. He helped them capture state titles in both sports as a junior last year. He batted .459 with 48 runs and 35 RBI. In his football career, he has returned nine punts or kickoffs for touchdowns and has a school-record 14 interceptions, returning two for scores. Also, he has caught 30 passes for 596 yards and eight touchdowns this year. This season, LCHS is 10-1.

Kevin Rhoderick: He is a two-time USA Baseball National Team selection. As a junior at Horizon High School in Scottsdale, Ariz., he went 7-3 with a 2.15 ERA and 90 strikeouts in leading the Huskies to a state runner-up finish in 5A. He earned All Desert Valley Region, All-City and All-State honors.

Carson Schilling: He batted .365 with five home runs and 22 RBI for Stratford as the Eagles went 20-8 last year. He had a .974 fielding percentage and went 5-2 with a 2.37 ERA and one save on the mound. His prep coach is former Georgia Bulldog Major Leaguer Jeff Treadway.

Evan Tieles: He went 11-0, 2.10 ERA with 52 strikeouts in 60 innings pitched as a junior at Blessed Trinity Catholic High School. He clinched the state title with a three-hitter in a 2-1 win over Columbus as the Titans finished with a 32-5 record. He was named the 2006 Atlanta Journal-Constitution First Team as a third baseman after batting .459-7-47 with a .524 OB% and All County as a pitcher. “I am honored to have been given the opportunity to represent an outstanding baseball program like the University of Georgia,” Tieles said.

The Bulldogs are one of only five programs nationally to have advanced to the College World Series twice in the past three seasons. Georgia opens the season Feb. 9 at Foley Field versus defending national champion Oregon State.
