Associate Head Coach Pete Herrmann will serve as interim head coach the remainder of the season according to Evans. Release>>

A 27-year veteran of coaching at the NCAA division I level, Pete Herrmann is in his sixth season at the University of Georgia.  He was named Associate Head Coach of the Bulldogs on April 24, 2003.

Georgia is Herrmann’s fifth Division I school. After coaching at the high school and Division III levels for 11 years, he coached basketball at the U.S. Naval Academy for 12 years, the first six as an assistant and the next six as the Midshipmen’s head coach. David Robinson was Navy’s most prominent player during that time. He arrived in Annapolis as a skinny 6-7 forward but became the Academy’s all-time leading scorer, rebounder and shot blocker.

Herrmann’s other coaching stops included Kansas State (1992-94), Virginia (1994-98) and Western Kentucky (1998-2003). In all, 13 of the teams he helped coach won either their league’s regular-season or conference tournament titles. Nine of them have earned NCAA Tournament berths, including the 1986 Navy and 1995 Virginia squads, both of which reached the Elite Eight. The 1994 Kansas State squad, which Herrmann assisted, reached the NIT Final Four.

Herrmann was an All-American, a 2-year captain and twice MVP of the baseball team at the State University of New York at Geneseo. He also played basketball and was inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991.

Herrmann began coaching as an assistant coach at Byron-Bergen Central School in Bergen, N.Y. (1970-74) and then spent a year (1974-75) as an aide at Hobart College. He was head coach at Midlakes High School in Clifton Springs, N.Y., for five seasons (1975-80) and was the regional prep Coach of the Year in 1978.

A 1970 graduate of SUNY-Geneseo, Herrmann is an enthusiastic speaker and has participated in a variety of national clinics. He is also a former officer in the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Herrmann and his wife Sharon have a daughter, Lisa, and a grandson, 10-year-old Pete.
