WILMINGTON, N.C. --- No. 8 Georgia carded a 306 in Sunday's final round of the NCAA Fall Preview at the Country Club of Landfall, leaving the Bulldogs tied for 11th in the final team standings.
Marta Silva Zamora and Emilie Burger both posted 1-over 73s to lead Georgia. The Bulldogs also counted a 79 from Milena Savich and an 80, the score posted by both Carolina Andrade and Kendall Wright.
"It was a tough day," head coach Kelley Hester said. "It was windy and the hole locations were difficult. We got off to a slow start and never really got it going. Burger hung in there and played well and Marta had another solid round."
No. 13 Duke used an even-par 288 to surge to the top of the team leaderboard, which featured nine of the nation's top-10 teams and 15 of the top-25 schools playing the same course that will host the 2010 NCAA Championships.
The Blue Devils edged No. 6 Auburn and No. 1 UCLA by a single stroke. Rounding out the top 10 teams were No. 2 Arizona State at 889, No. 18 Virginia at 891, No. 3 Purdue at 892, No. 20 Wake Forest at 895, No. 24 Denver at 898, No. 9 Alabama at 903 and No. 4 Michigan State at 904. The Bulldogs tied with No. 12 LSU and North Carolina for 11th at 912.
Auburn's Cydney Clanton claimed medalist honors after her third straight 2-under 70. She finished at 6-under 210, five strokes better than runner-up Brittany Altomare of Virginia. For Georgia, Silva Zamora tied for 12th at 220, Burger tied for 30th at 225, Wright tied for 54th at 231, Savich tied for 70th at 236 and Andrade tied for 80th at 243.
The tournament completed a successful fall portion of Georgia's 2009-10 schedule. The Bulldogs won team titles at two of five events – the Duramed Cougar Classic and the Eat A Peach Collegiate – with Silva Zamora capturing individual medalist honors at those same tourneys.
"I think this weekend gives us a really good idea of what we need to work on to prepare for the national championships," Hester said. "It was really good that we were here and we certainly have stuff to concentrate on this off season before we play again next spring."
The Bulldogs will return to action in February with the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, P.R.
